Police station, customary court, and DPO’s residence burnt down by angry youths after a young man was allegedly killed by a policeman in Ohafia, Abia.


There is reportedly an unrest in Ebem community of Ohafia, Abia State following the killing of a young man identified simply as Friday.


Friday was reportedly shot dead on Friday night after some policemen got into a fight with a supermarket owner in the community.

An eywitness, Mr. Madu Kalu told The Nation that a Police station, a customary court and a DPO residence were burnt down after the incident denegerated into violence.

An eyewitness said;
  “It started at Ebem-Ohafia where a supermarket owner at the motor park close to the police station and his boys were off-loading wares from a truck around 6:30pm on Friday .
“The supermarket faces the major road in the town. A police patrolling vehicle was said to have brushed the parked truck. The supermarket owner, one Mr. Moses Aki and elderly man, came outside the store to ask the police patrol team why they wanted to spoil his wares.
“One of the police officers slapped him. The man’s grown up children and workers were annoyed by the assault and accosted the police officers. In the scuffle, a policemen shot and killed a worker. That was what sparked the whole unrest.
“So, the community youths of Ebem-Ohafia and other communities decided to go on peaceful protest. the whole place became restive between Friday night and Saturday morning. It then degenerated into violence today.
“The situation was not helped by the news that two indigenes of Abia State had already lost their lives due to the COVID-19 lockdown. So, far a police patrol, police station and customary court at Ebem-Ohafia were all torched.
“The Ohafia police later got reinforcement from Nkporo Police Station but they were also overwhelmed and had to retreat after the team shot and injured a protester. While fleeing, the police team vehicle fell inside a ditch and it was also torched.”

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Sunday announced that his administration has set in motion the platform for the distribution of food palliatives to Rivers people

This is as a result of the sit-at-home directive to check the spread of coronavirus.

Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt on Sunday after inspecting the State Food Bank established for the distribution of the food palliatives, Governor Wike informed that a State Committee will be set up to implement the distribution of the foodstuffs.

Governor Wike was accompanied by Service Commanders who are members of the State Task Force on Enforcement of the Ban on Public and Religious Gatherings .

The Task Force monitored compliance at Omega Power Ministries, OPM, Saint Patrick’s Anglican Church, Rukpokwu and Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Chaplaincy, Catholic Institute of West Africa, Rumuibekwe.


“We have visited this location to see the readiness of the isolation/treatment centre in Port Harcourt. Even though they failed to deliver the job on Saturday as promised, we are confident in the next four days, it would have been completedGovernor Wike also inspected the progress of work at the State Isolation/Treatment Centre under construction.

The “Time Flies” crooner knows to achieve this, it will sure take a lot of sacrifice, dedication and the support of the true fans of good music, but it’s worth it. As Nigerians are music lovers and understand what good music is, Akin believes they will choose to go with the trend, he’s setting.

With his kind of mindset Akin might just be the long awaited savior to sanitize the music industry, having been on the scene for over a decade.

American Singer, Pink Recovers After Testing Positive For Coronavirus, And Slams US Govt For Not Making Tests Available


American singer, Pink just announced that she has recovered from the dreaded coronavirus after testing positive a few weeks ago. 

The award-winning singer took to her Instagram page to share her story. According to her, she and her 3-year-old son were showing symptoms of COVID-19 and thanks to her primary health care physician, she was able to get tested. She followed instructions from her doctor and thankfully she tested negative a few days ago.
She also called out the US government for not making Coronavirus testing available, as she pointed out that health officials have expressed frustration over the limited testing capacity. She also made a donation of $1 million to support health care workers on the frontlines in honor of her mother.
Two weeks ago my three-year old son, Jameson, and I are were showing symptoms of COVID-19. Fortunately, our primary care physician had access to tests and I tested positive. My family was already sheltering at home and we continued to do so for the last two weeks following the instruction of our doctor.
Just a few days ago we were re-tested and are now thankfully negative. It is an absolute travesty and failure of our government to not make testing more widely accessible. This illness is serious and real. People need to know that the illness affects the young and old, healthy and unhealthy, rich and poor, and we must make testing free and more widely accessible to protect our children, our families, our friends and our communities.
In an effort to support the healthcare professionals who are battling on the frontlines every day, I am donating $500,000 to the Temple University Hospital Emergency Fund in Philadelphia in honor of my mother, Judy Moore, who worked there for 18 years in the Cardiomyopathy and Heart Transplant Center.
Additionally, I am donating $500,000 to the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Emergency COVID-19 Crisis Fund. THANK YOU to all of our healthcare professionals and everyone in the world who are working so hard to protect our loved ones. You are our heroes! These next two weeks are crucial: please stay home.
